Description
Brighton Motorsports is pleased to present this affordable, driver-level 1956 MGA 1500 Roadster which has been treated to an owner-completed mechanical and cosmetic partial restoration.
The project was carried by the previous owner at his home workshop in Texas beginning in 2005, ending in 2007. He kept very good records of the project in a “logbook” which is 16-pages long and details every step of his work, including the engine rebuild, and he took a few photographs which are photocopied onto the pages. Overall, this record is a very helpful resource for the new owner in understanding exactly what and how the project was completed.
Mechanically the car runs very well and smooth. The engine was rebuilt in 2006 and it runs strong, and does not smoke or overheat. During the underhood project, most of the belts, hoses, and wires were replaced or repaired, the radiator was rodded and painted, and a new battery installed.
The interior is very nice and certainly the high point of the entire car. It was completely refinished in new red leather seating and trim, new door panels, and new carpet and trim. All of the instruments work, but the heating and ventilation system (included) does need to be installed. This is a very simple system and most MGA enthusiasts could reinstall it in a day.
Also provided are the window side curtains, a small supply of spares and interior trim extras. The convertible top is canvas and brand-new, and it looks and operates very well. Finishing out the interior is a nice black vinyl tonneau cover.
The underside and frame of the car is very clean and there is no rust. It’s been well detailed, the floorpan wood has been replaced, and a new stainless-steel exhaust installed. As recorded in the owners project journal, the brake and suspension system was overhauled as well.
The body and paintwork were completed to a level that the owners skill and equipment allowed – perhaps best described as a good “twenty-footer.” The rubber is new and soft and the body welting strips are new. All of the chrome, trim and lighting is present and in good condition.
There are some minor paint scratches and paint chips, some body panels don’t fit perfectly, but considering that the car would most benefit from a complete repaint, those are not significant. Our policy is to honestly represent out cars, so keep in mind that these exterior photos of this car look a bit better than viewing the car in person with the naked eye. That being said - it is a very pretty car that you could easily drive and enjoy the for quite some time without repainting it – your choice.
This is a very nice, affordable MGA with lots of character and driving appeal, which can be enjoyed just as it is or brought to the next level.
Based on the 3rd-party value indexes, which include the current issues of Sports Car Market Price Guide, Hagerty’s Cars That Matter Price Guide, and other factors, the market value of this car is $19,200 (#3 condition car).
